A courage to survive that cannot be ignored

Inspired by the real stories of Congolese women - women who survived the brutality of war with wit, humor and spirit - Ruined takes audiences to a rain forest bar and brothel in the Democratic Republic of Congo, where Mama Nadi both protects and profits from the young women who come to her for refuge.

Members of the award-winning original company will recreate their roles in this most acclaimed play of 2009, winner of the Pulitzer Prize and numerous other awards. Extended eight times in its New York run, Ruined is the centerpiece of Intiman's season and will launch the theatre's new International Cycle.

"The core commitment of Ruined is to celebrate and examine the spectrum of human life in all its complexities: the sacred with the profane, the transcendent with the lethal, the flaws with the beauty, and selfishness with generosity." - Kate Whoriskey
